What is a static file server (CDN)?

CDNs aren’t necessarily only for static content. They serve cached web pages, process response from cached middlware and are the equivalent of the web servers that actually host the application data. CDN uses geographical proximity to ascertain which server to use for the request. On the contrary, a static file server is not specific to location.
