How does the Hooke's law hold true?

That is to stay beyond this limit the Hooke’s law does not hold true. The elastic limit which is really close to the proportional limit ,and is reached after it, signifies the limit of elasticity for the material. If the specimen is loaded beyond this limit and when the load is removed it will not regain its original shape and size.
